Have you heard of dental veneers? As you may already be aware, these shells are cemented to front surfaces of your teeth to provide a smile that is healthy and attractive. Our dentist may recommend dental veneers to whiten your smile, improve crooked teeth or cover small gaps between teeth. While dental veneers are durable and stain resistant, there are a few steps for proper care to keep your veneers for many years.

Even with dental veneers, it’s important to brush and floss every day. Try to brush for a minimum of two minutes twice a day using a non-abrasive toothpaste so that you don’t scratch the veneers. You may even find it beneficial to brush with a toothpaste that is designed for sensitive teeth.

If you have received veneers, we encourage you to use your teeth responsibly. This means avoiding the temptation to use your teeth to chew your fingernails or ice or to open bottles. In reality, these practices should not happen at any time regardless of whether you are wearing veneers. Harmful habits of chewing on objects could result in cracking your veneers, which will require replacement veneers at our office. It’s also a good idea to avoid drinking certain beverages such as soda and alcohol, which can affect the quality of your veneers.

Finally, we encourage you to visit our dentist twice a year for dental checkups. Call us at (919) 468-5501 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Siti A. Lowery, DDS to visit the dental practice at 110 Preston Executive Dr. #104, Cary, NC 27513.
