The American Dental Association recommends having a professional dental checkup and cleaning performed every six months. This will help to remove all traces of plaque and tartar from your teeth while monitoring the overall health of your mouth.

A dental hygienist will start by cleaning and polishing your teeth. Then Dr. Siti Lowery will examine your mouth to detect any signs of cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer. If she finds any areas of concern, she will present you with the applicable treatment options. This might also include applying preventative treatments.

If Dr. Siti Lowery notices bacterial deposits trapped in the biting surface of your molars and premolars, she might recommend having dental sealants applied at the end of the appointment. This is a special dental resin painted onto the deeply textured tooth enamel of the biting surfaces. Once they have been cured by an ultraviolet light, the dental sealants will prevent bacteria from direct contact with the underlying tooth enamel.

If your tooth enamel shows signs of demineralization from acidic beverages or poor oral hygiene, Dr. Siti Lowery might recommend a fluoride treatment. To do this, Dr. Siti Lowery pours concentrated fluoride gel into trays that will be inserted in your mouth. They will be held there for a few minutes to allow the fluoride to saturate your teeth. This will help strengthen the mineral density of your teeth.
